Noteworthy Characteristics of UU’s DPT Program

Image
Hey ya’ll! For this blog, I’m going to be talking about some of the special things that I personally find great about Utica University’s program compared to many other programs. Most PT programs are organized in a similar manner, but they all definitely have little things that are specific to each one. One thing that I found to be a great perk to UU’s program is how they set up the curriculum. The first course that we take here after entering the program is human gross anatomy. This course is taken the summer before your first fall semester. I really liked that it was set up like this because it was the only class I was taking at that time and I could really focus on learning that material. As a PT, this information is the basis of our career, so I really liked that I was able to put my all into that course and just focus on that one class.  Another thing that I really like about Utica University’s PT program is that the first year students work closely with the second year ...

Tips & Tricks: Interviewing for PT School

Image
http://clipart-library.com/job-interview-cliparts.html Hi readers! When I started interviewing for physical therapy school, it was just about this time last year. I remember being super nervous, feeling like I wasn't sure what to say to make me stand out more than my fellow applicants. I met with one of my professors a couple times to do mock interviews, my friends pretended to be interviewers for me so I could practice, and I even reached out to the graduate admissions offices to be clear on their expectations for prospective students into their PT program.  When I did my interviews last year, most schools were offering either an in-person interview or a virtual interview via zoom. One thing that I really loved about Utica University was that they were one of the schools that were offering in-person interviews. I personally felt that I could better portray my character and who I am in-person much better than I could online. For UU’s interview, they had four faculty mem...

Being Part of a Cohort at UU

Image
UUDPT Class of 2025 Hey readers! For this post, I’m going to touch a little on what it's like to be a part of a cohort here in UU’s DPT program. Prior to graduate school, I personally think everything felt like a competition to be the best of the best and get into a desired program. However, now that I’m in the program, that feeling of competitiveness has gone away… so that’s something to look forward to after the chaos of the application process! Everyone in my class here at UU is super supportive and we all work together as a team to help one another be successful. I was not a member of the 3+3 direct entry DPT program, so I wasn’t able to build very strong connections with my cohort members prior to grad school. However, this has not been a problem at all. Everyone is so very supportive and welcoming, no matter your background, age, etc. This makes the challenging courses and hard work that much easier. It’s nice to have the same group to study with, to go to classes with, and...

First-Hand Experience with PTCAS: What is it & What to Expect

Image
Hello everyone! PTCAS stands for the Physical Therapist Centralized Application System. This system is used by many physical therapy schools across the country, Utica University included. When I was applying for graduate school last summer, I used PTCAS. This makes applications a lot easier by organizing all of your applications onto one site. For the most part, physical therapy schools need to know the same general information about each of their applicants. Using the physical therapist centralized application system allows you as the applicant to enter a lot of this information one time and apply it to a number of applications for a lot of different schools. When I found out that Utica University uses PTCAS for their applications, I was very happy because this made my life much easier. I was able to enter my general information onto my PTCAS  account and then just type up short essays and other questions that were specific to each school that I applied for. On the physical therap...
