Noteworthy Characteristics of UU’s DPT Program

 Physical Therapy | Utica University

Hey ya’ll! For this blog, I’m going to be talking about some of the special things that I personally find great about Utica University’s program compared to many other programs. Most PT programs are organized in a similar manner, but they all definitely have little things that are specific to each one. One thing that I found to be a great perk to UU’s program is how they set up the curriculum. The first course that we take here after entering the program is human gross anatomy. This course is taken the summer before your first fall semester. I really liked that it was set up like this because it was the only class I was taking at that time and I could really focus on learning that material. As a PT, this information is the basis of our career, so I really liked that I was able to put my all into that course and just focus on that one class.

Another thing that I really like about Utica University’s PT program is that the first year students work closely with the second year students; they’re our mentors. We are assigned a second year at the beginning of the fall semester who we can ask questions about the program and get tips and advice from. This second year is also the mentor we will be paired with at the Parkway Senior Center, a place that we go for our caring for the community class. This class is another awesome thing that I love about UU’s program.

At Parkway, a first year and a second year get assigned to a senior, who we get to work with every single week. It’s so much fun and it gives us an opportunity to put what we learn in class into practice! We also get the chance to practice our patient interaction skills, which are super important to develop before our first clinical at the end of year one and for the real world as a practicing PT after school! Utica University’s program has many things that make it stand out, but these are a few of the ones that I personally find the best!

Goodbye for now, folks☺
